Dieci Machines 17 Metres Underground

news-Dieci-17M-Underground

Transforming and modernising large urban works, such as railway junctions requires optimised work to achieve maximum results. This aspect becomes even more relevant when workplaces are difficult to manoeuvre such as in tunnels and dusty environments.

As well as utilising high performing and resistant machines, it is important to ensure that comfort and safety for the operator are met.

Thanks to their characteristics – versatility, design, sturdiness and maneuverability, Dieci machines are an ideal solution for any type of construction site, such as the one created for operations on the future Bern railway station.

Zukunft Bahnhof Bern: An Important Urban Project in Bern

Within a constantly evolving society, where distances are narrowing and the way individuals are living and working is changing, particular architectural projects carried out during the last century are now obsolete.

This is the case of the Bern station, built in the 1950s with the aim of connecting 16,000 people daily and which, today hosts 60,000.

This sudden change led to the birth of the “Zukunft Bahnhof Bern” project, which forecasts  the expansion of the station, where long-distance trains will continue their passage on the line surfaces and local trains will cross the new station 17 meters down.

The project will conclude with an underpass – a road system of buses and, cycle and pedestrian paths, transforming the Bern station into a new city hub.

On a construction site like this, in addition to unexpected events, such as geological phenomena, limited space is probably the greatest challenge. Every single construction sequence must be well coordinated and safety requirements are accordingly stringent.

For this large urban project, various machines from the Dieci range have been selected , such as:

  • Truck mixers, ideal for heavy and intensive use, even in confined spaces.
  • Dumpers, small and compact, perfect for handling material even inside tunnels.
  • Pegasus rotational telehandlers, designed to simplify the work on site and adapt to the various operating phases.

These machines were ideal for this particular project, thanks to their ability to operate efficiently even in atypical, dangerous and hostile conditions. The resistant and robust design of Dieci machines, combined with the effectiveness of self-cleaning pre-filters and, in the case of the Pegasus, a spacious, protected cabin equipped with air conditioning and filtering system, guarantees a comfortable and safe work experience for the operator.

Why Dieci Dumpers?

Dieci dumpers are ideal for working inside the narrow dimensions of underground tunnels. Their maximum capacity, which ranges from 7000 kg to 10,800 kg depending on the vehicle, allows waste materials produced by the excavation of the drilling rigs to be transported outside.

These vehicles are particularly versatile, resistant, easy to handle and light – ideal for any type of construction site, because:

  • They are autonomous in the loading phase thanks to the self-loading shovel, which simplifies and speeds up work.
  • They guarantee precision and quality of execution thanks to the reversible driving position that allows loading and unloading with a simple reversal of direction.

Why Dieci Mixers?

On the Bern construction site, truck mixers are responsible for supplying the sprayers that line the walls of the tunnel. The one belonging to the Dieci range is the Italian hydrostatic truck mixer that achieves greater power, producing 100 m3 of concrete in just 5 hours of work.

Among the main features of Dieci truck mixers, are:

  • Spiral blades, due to the proven design of the spiral blades, ingredients can be mixed to an extremely high degree of precision while being poured into the drum, creating a perfectly homogeneous result every time.
  • The self-loading shovel, which allows an autonomy of work even in difficult environments.
  • The comfortable cab with reversible seat, which guarantees greater manoeuvrability even in narrow spaces such as tunnels.

Why the Pegasus 40.18 – 400 °?

Dieci rotational telehandlers are the ideal solution for any type of construction site, as they can adapt to multiple work phases thanks to the many accessories that are available, such as baskets, grippers, material holders and mixing buckets.

For the Bern station, the Pegasus 40.18,  400 ° non continuous rotational telehandler was chosen. On the Swiss construction site, this machine was responsible for lifting and transporting heavy materials and securing the construction site. This involved equipping the walls with the tools necessary for the completion of the work, such as electrical systems, lighting and ventilation ducts.

The advantages of the Pegasus 40.18 are:

  • Digital telematic system (DTS), which allows the operator to monitor all of the machine’s operating lights, even remotely. This system facilitates periodic maintenance, optimising costs and ensuring excellent vehicle performance.
  • Maximum precision, guaranteed by the slow advancement through the “INCHING” pedal and the automatic leveling system, which stabilises the vehicle even on uneven floors.
  • Single lever control that guarantees safety, intuitiveness and ease of use.
  • Automatic tool recognition, where the machine automatically configures itself by recognising the tool.
  • Excellent characteristics, such as the maximum capacity of 4000 kg, the maximum lifting height of 18 metres and the power of 85.9 kw (115 hp).

The Railways of Switzerland

Despite its apparently closed location, nestled within the Alps, Switzerland has always been a modern and innovative country. The first Swiss railway line was built in 1847 and it took only 13 years to connect the two ends of the country. The Swiss Federal Railways were officially born in 190, when all the routes, which had considerably expanded the line, were unified.

Thanks to the power, versatility and safety of Dieci vehicles, today these lines are ready to be modernised, to welcome even more visitors from all over Europe.
